The John C. Stennis Space Center is a national asset that has been on the forefront of cutting edge technology for more than 35 years. Stennis Space Center is the nation's largest and most unique rocket test facility and has a leading role in commercializing remote sensing technology.

Rocket Propulsion Testing At Stennis Space Center

In the 1960's, the center tested all first and second stages of the Apollo program's Saturn 5 rocket that carried astronauts to the moon. Since 1975, Stennis has tested all Space Shuttle Main Engines that power the Shuttle into orbit. Stennis is also the National Space and Aeronautics Administration's lead center for rocket propulsion testing and is responsible for managing all rocket test programs and for making assignments for propulsion testing at other NASA centers.

Stennis Space Center is known for its strong tradition of reinventing government. This unique, high-quality business park is now home to more than 30 federal, state, academic and private organizations, including the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command and the Naval Oceanographic Office, which ranks among the top 10 worldwide in supercomputing capability.
